Look! Asian-themed Pink, Gold, and Blue Entryway

052308_pinkbluegold.jpgWe've seen very similar pieces to the ones in this living room on Craigslist, but we'd never think about putting them together like this, much less cover 80% of it in various shades of pink. But somehow, this entryway area comes off looking bohemian and feminine, not Malibu Barbie Goes Hollywood. Well, OK, maybe it does look kind of like that...a little...

The pink with gold accents look harmonious, but what we really love is the unexpected twist of china blue and white. Despite all the styles and patterns going on, there's a nice symmetry and balance. The graphic stripes from the blue pillow seem to gel with the style of the artwork; the frame of the mirror matches the console table; and the upholstery from the ottoman echoes the look of the porcelain bowls and vases. And now we're kicking ourselves for not picking up a similar tufted tub chair that we saw on CL last week...

I think it's a gorgeous design and makes a wonderful staged setting , but if it were more than just a small entry, I'd be exhausted by the *whammo* of this much pop every day.

That porcelain is indeed great. LOVE that bowl.

The throw pillow is weird though... doesn't fit.

You know, all I can think of is that expression from that Christmas movie: a pink nightmare. It looks kind of like the inside of a Pepto-Bismol bottle.

Ghastly and way over the top.

This is somewhat of an inspiration for many color schemes. The pictures alongside the mirror can be recreated, and I really like the tall skinny lamps with the tiny flattened shades. They look like mini floor lamps. Other things like the strangely nautical pillow, I don't like, and neither the sitting at the desk as the ottoman suggests, only to have all those vases and the bowl taking up the surface and blocking the view in the mirror. I'm not taken with the color scheme, but I see a few ideas here that work.

Do people in Japan and China have "American" themed rooms?

Modfan - hahaha Asians probably don't have American-themed rooms, but some may have Western-themed rooms. And I know a lot of people here (Malaysia) love English-style deco with the flowery sofas and cushions and all that.
