For a while the green version of chalkboard paint has been really popular and we're loving a throwback to the chalkboard's original color, black. It makes us a little nostalgic, plus it looks dramatic and (in a less cluttered context) could look sleek and modern in a way that we don't normally think of chalkboards. What do you think?
Did you know that you can make your own chalkboard paint (in any color you want)?

I agree with you Olivia this does have the creepy factor.

The problem is that it never really erases all that well. Sure, you can wash it, but then, what's the point? I don't really need to express myself by drawing on my walls, doors, mantel piece, etc.

i knew as soon as i saw the photo, (i smiled), what the comments were going to be. haha. i like it, for that if nothing more. you're talking about chalk paint.....while no one has gotten past the "demon", gas mask, tissue culture chart, and possible body parts in jars, ...it makes me laugh.

Haha! yes dM I must admit the Chucky type doll was also pretty distracting.
This new style will be perfect for the unannounced new sister website to apartment therapy coming out this 2009 targeting an untapped demographic of mad scientists, serial killers and horror fiction authors.

OMG! I HAVE THAT SAME GAS MASK!!!
Actually, it's my husband's. I bought it for him last year as a Christmas gift. It's kind of neat, actually. The doll creeps me out tho.

I'll bet you give super Halloween parties, that's high praise from me.

Being from the South most families down here do have Chucky dolls over their demon fireplaces. But it's the gas mask that get me ha!

Sheesh this is one creepfest. (Yah, forget the chalkboard paint talk)
And that doll there is no Chucky doll; I don't know the brand name but it's the only doll I ever owned growing up (was the tomboy type) and she would change her facial expressions from sad, to happy, to angry, to surprised by lifting and lowering her arm. I guess you can call her the quintessential bipolar doll.
Yeah, she fits right in with this setup.

Remember the "sharpie" room from last week? How cool would it be to draw "architectural detail" on the mantle? Well, I think it'd be cool anyhow...

I've been thinking about doing black blackboard paint on the tiles surrounding my fireplace. Not the mantel though, which is white.
The tiles are pretty hideous. I don't think I could make them look WORSE. I think even if not completely erased it could look sort of slate-like on the cheap.
