The 3500 square foot home fits easily into its surroundings, incorporating the best parts of the classic Spanish influenced Mission Revival architecture for which this neighborhood is known with the conveniences and layout of a modern home, with all of the features we're looking for in an ideal space, from master suites to substantial closets to a living room that combines relaxation and food preparation with easy access to outdoor entertaining.

We'll be spotlighting a few of the things that inspired us over the next few days, including the vibrant use of colour, but if you get the opportunity, you might want to consider a visit before it closes August 24th. There's $15 entrance fee; the proceeds go to P.S. ARTS, a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring arts education in public schools by providing comprehensive, skills based, sequential classes in dance, music, theater and visual arts. P.S. ARTS. The Idea Home is located on 6376 Lindenhurst Ave, Los Angeles, 90048 and is open to the public from Thursday-Sunday only. The house is closed Monday-Wednesday. Hours are Thursday-Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m. For more information, click here

I like most of the choices - but 3500sq ft is hardly a cottage, now is it?

I really, really, really want to like Cottage Living (and their Idea House), but my hopeful expectations rarely lives up to the reality.

I am confused. a newly built $3,500 square foot home...and then the public is supposed to pay $15 to take a gander? and the proceeds from people taking a gander go to a non-profit? Why didn't they just give the money$ it took to build and design/furnish this overdone dream house directly to the non-profit?

I saw it this weekend -- it was worth a visit. Many of colours work really well when you see them in person and although this is not a small house it uses space in a way that feels intimate rather than ginormous. i also liked that it fits in with the other houses, taking the best of spanish style mission revival and marrying it to a modern lifestyle (eat in kitchen, indoor outdoor living, good sized closets and master suite) in an inspirational way.

Is this hideous, or am I just getting too old to appreciate the new?

Love the bar area, the orange gilded frames and the lovely curtains throughout the house. The black, desk/office area leaves me cold however.

I really love the floor lamp in the bedroom. Does anyone know where it is from?

Jooly and Lisa ... I'm with you, I think this is ugly! And, um ... what makes it a cottage?
