Creating art or photographic collages with multiple pieces is a great way to brighten up a large wall. Our friend Peggy over at Design FormuLA posted some great ideas for wall collages, even going so far as to include some outline plans as shown below...

I'm wondering how many large pieces can be worked into a wall collection like this. Is there a rule of thumb for a ratio of large peices to small pieces? I'm wanting to arrange a collection on a large wall and the end of my great room, and mix it with a few small ornate mirrors. The challenge I seem to be having is that most of my art is the same size. hrm.

Awesome! Great for someone like me who always wants to do a wall collage, but needs more guidance.

Uh guys? This is LA, remember? Earthquakes? Not over the bed. Think about it: It's 2 a.m., pitch black and the building starts shaking back and forth, pitching all those lovely pictures (but more, importantly, their frames) off the wall and - yep - right on some already-disoriented, freaked out sleepers who may or may not be able to stand, may or may not be already on the floor, may or may not be able to turn on the lights. A nice tapestry collage, sure, but hard objects over the bed? Bad idea.
