We've seen some great creative fencing lately. We're loving the fact that architects and landscape designers are thinking outside the box and put as much thought into something that once was so traditional and now it can add as much architectual shape and texture to a property as the home or apartment building itself.

I would love to find someone that knows how to make a fence similar to the third picture from top. If anyone has a resource, please pass it on. Thank you

What is with the trend with wood slats as fencing or as siding for buildings. I agree it is beautiful, for about 6 months and then it's all down hill from there.
The wood eventually looks warpy, discolored and water stained... unless you refinish it every year which I can imagine can be a huge commitment. After a few years, they all end up being painted.

We went the horizontal louvre (cedar) route:

Minty;
You are absolutely correct about decay if you leave the wood untreated. However there are outdoor natural wood oil based stains that have a 15 year rating. They can be found at any "big box" hardware store and many local ones as well.
I once used Cedar ship-lap on a vertical plain and painted oil based stain on with brushes to give it a beautiful golden luster(it took about three coats for the max effect).
