Look!: DIY X-ray Light Desk
Plus 3 More DIY Desks

111008desk-04.jpgWe were first drawn to the simple lines of this freestanding desk mixed with the vintage-y chairs and black wall. And at first glance, it looks like a white, modern desk. We were not aware of the DIY nature of this desk until we starting scrolling through commonhumans' photo stream. It's actually a X-Ray light turned on its side. View the desk lit up (which looks amazing) after the jump.

111008desk-05.jpgCommonhumans made this desk by taking a vintage X-ray backlight that he found at a university surplus store. To DIY this desk yourself, you'll need wall brackets to mount the x-ray light perpendicular to the wall. Commonhumans says the light is helpful when he does tracing for graphic and interior design. We wouldn't mind having this desk just for mundane paperwork--we love this amazing DIY desk!

The light must be horrible for the eyes when you're working, but I guess it could be useful as a multi-use desk for a photographer.

I think it would look better flipped so the light was pointed towards the ground. But ya cool idea.

I love the bookcase desk. My husband and I both work from home, this would be great.

This desk is amazing. I'm sure they use the lamp when they are really working.

I love it too, I have my light box normally stored in the top drawer of the flat file, but if I'm using it, it ends up on the desk then on the floor then back up on the desk. This is a great solution!

the bookcase desk looks like a great way to constantly be kicking your possessions off the shelves. great concept, but maybe only fill the shelves above the desk top?
