Haha, we've thought we'd seen every sort of Eames related mod, but nothing quite as amusing as this Eames shell chair modified for comfortable bathroom lounging (although if you're sitting there too long, we'd recommend more fiber in your diet). Another photo of University of the Arts ID's bathroom midcentury-modification under the jump....
Quoted from the Flickr post: These two pieces, the Eames toilet chair and the Eames child seat, are about breaking the status surrounding high design objects. Through physically invasive alterations, these once iconic, elite, forms are liberated from their old, restrained image. The project is not a critique of the Eames, but rather a fulfillment of their original ideals.
Hmmm, not sure the Eames had something like this quite in mind, but we think they would have found it amusing nonetheless.

Okay, now the arm shell would have been *really* cool, teehee.

I don't like this very much.
It definitely is a hack job. What is to keep men from piddling on it?
I could imagine how nasty the cleanup would be around the underside of the seat.
Yes, the Eames chairs were supposed to be utilitarian which means they made sense as far as form and function goes. But this doesn't make any sense, it is obviously an art school joke.

This looks a bit like some potty-training devices I've seen. Perhaps men should use the sit-down technique to piddle?

I work at UArts, I'm pretty sure they are not still installed, still clever though.

Ha Ha! (For fear of sounding like a stuffy curmudgeon).
It is a little more clever than ketchup packets underneath the little spacers beneath the toilet seat.

I think this is one for the ladies. You men can't lift the seat!

My jaw has dropped to the ground. Part of me doesn't know to laugh hysterically or **shudder** or both.

Oh! Oh! Wrong chair! It should have been a Bertoia. Then guys wouldn't have to raise the seat.
