Look!: Framed Coats

081408frame-03.jpgFrames are great when you want to highlight artwork or an antique picture but framing clothing? We thought it was silly too until we saw it in the flesh. This idea is great on so many levels...

The fact that it's unexpected and adds a bit of flair to the drab entryway scores big points. Plus it's translatable for any space--the frame can change depending on the mood and color of your home. You can find large picture frames that are relatively inexpensive at your local thrift store (but we're guessing you might have an extra frame lying around). In case you don't want to purchase a frame we also think it would be cool to just paint a rectangle where the coats hang, still giving them that framing effect. And finally, not to get too dorky but we love the notion that we're framing outerwear (which frames us when the temperatures cool down).

Perhaps if the area inside the frame was at least a different color and the hooks weren't so horribly cheap and plastic looking...

I love this idea with really beautiful hooks from anthro....I have been trying to come up with a fresh way to hang my fabric grocery bags on the back porch...I will use this!

What if the hooks were ON the lower side, or the right and left sides, of the frame? than you could place, I don't know, a picture or a blackboard, or a clock, in it. The proportions would look nicer ...

I'm gonna need you to put that frame in a portrait position, instead of the landscape position, and I need for the coats to fit inside it, so yeah, the hooks will need to be higher or the frame lower, and I need to see a contrasting color on the inside of the frame.

I realize that you have your own needs, but just think about whether meeting mine might perhaps help you.

This sucks on so many levels. The empty frame isn't a terrible idea, but the hooks, as noted above, are dime store, don't work with the frame, and the colors don't look good together.

I could understand this if it had, say a wallpaper or fabric pattern inside of it and then maybe use decorative hooks- Put it so it's upright like a portrait and maybe even zig-zag the hooks.

This just looks boring:(

someone chose to model those sweaters like that.... what happened to the plaid lumberjack jacket someone came in wearing, or the hat they threw onto the hook or a childs rain coat or a teenagers leather jacket? how many people live here? the picture is staged and therefore doesnt look natural... i dont want to judge people choices of clothing but its only natural when its forced, as in this picture.

sarahjam, you took the words right out of my mouth! Right now this looks okay, but that is only because the hoods are all matching weight, different colors. In use, this would go from okay to horrible.

i like it. but the execution is bad.. def need some new hooks and perhaps a larger frame..and i agree with dunklekatze..need some wallpaper or fabric behind the frame.. this could be done well, but this pic makes it a "not"
