Look! Framing Your Walls with Paint

041508paintborder.jpgWe love the look of decorative molding on walls. They add an elegant touch to a room and a great way to add some visual texture to a blank wall. However, if you aren't able to actually install it, here's a non permanent solution, just paint it!...

Spotted via Girl Meets Glamour blog, she found these two examples. We love the way the image on the right pulls together the artwork, and ties in with the colors in the curtain. Has anyone tried this at home or would consider doing this? Any tips on how one would get the circular corners masked off? (via Girl meets Glamour)

I did this in my old bedroom on the upper west side many years ago: http://flickr.com/photos/sweetandbitter/324415864/in/photostream/.
Alternated between painting the molding white and the walls Tiffany blue and the walls white and the molding Tiffany blue. The picture's kind of crappy, and the carpet looks terrible next to it (ah, hindsight.) but I liked it at the time and it was relatively easy to do. Damn, I miss that pre-war molding out here in the west.

hey- what about me? im not allowed to touch my walls.

I think this could also be done with colored paper... so long as you do it well. the different segments of paper could be hung using spray-mount.. which would keep it flat against the wall.
-that way- if you move your paintings or furniture- you dont have to re-paint the room.. just peel off the paper! decal style.

For painting I'd try one of these:

You could blue tape the corner section and then cut it & peel it off, leaving a curved line of mask.

This is an old trick in the design world and I have always loved it.

I'm pretty sure my absurdly bumpy walls would make those lines totally impossible, otherwise I would seriously be considering this.

I love the clear legs on the desk in the left picture. Anyone know where I could buy a desk/legs like that?

brigglesy2k:

I don't know if you'll see this, but what color did you use to paint your bedroom in those flicker photos? I love that blue.

Thanks,
Jen
