Look! Ikea Fabric Covered Boxes

012709_boxes3.jpgStrolling through Ikea last week on our quest to help the bf get his office in order (we got the pax system, more on that later) we spied these fabric covered boxes in 3 great colors that had us dreaming up all sorts of uses for.

They're part of the Strikt Series (fabric covered boxes that fit into the cubbies in the Expedit Shelves) but these smaller, hinged boxes aren't showing up on the Ikea website.

They're perfect for storing photos or mementos and we even liked the idea of using them as reusable gift boxes. The insides are lined with black fabric and the 3 hues: orange, green and blue are eye catching and look much more expensive than they are. The addition of the hinged lid also make them feel luxurious. We liked the 8x10 inch boxes most, but as you can see, you can also buy a nesting set of boxes that are smaller and a great way to store jewelry within a drawer.

Has anyone bought these? Have they held up?

I'm happy to see Ikea get back to bright primary colors. With due respect Lady J, I hated the pink, dark purples and browns...

Does any one have an idea of what the largest size these come in is? They would be perfect for storing 11x17 drawings.

I have them in my dining room, of all places. I've been lusting after some lacquer boxes, but decided these would be good, temporary substitutions. The large one is 10"x12.5".

Let me see if I can link to this photo (tried it before and it didn't go through). I can't link directly to it...it's the third photo in this set: http://tinyurl.com/ckk2ht

I was lucky enough to get the hot pink and dark purple ones before they were completely gone, and they're the perfect size for storing on my keyboard tray. I've got all my electronic components in them and my office/crafting supplies.

I have two sets of the blue ones in a Benno short CD shelf unit in the hallway, holding office supplies and catching receipts, etc., as I come in the door.

I wish they were a slightly brighter color, and/or that the contrasts between the two blues were stronger, but they do for now.

@LadyJ If you need storage for 11x17 try the archival storage boxes at Blick. They are good, sturdy, and inexpensive!

I bought one! It's the best place to hid bills and incoming mail. Plus, it's not too big so when you actually do decide to go through it, it's not overwhelming.
