Horizontal lines are a great way to visually "extend" your space and make it feel larger. We spotted this simple but striking wall treatment in one of the model showrooms at IKEA. They painted the wall a warm grey and put up evenly spaced dark stained 1 x 2's on the entire wall. We love the end result. What do you guys think? Is this something you'd consider for your place? Has anyone does this before? (a few more pics after the jump)
Stupid. Looks like a roll-up-door from a distance. Looks even uglier up close. At the very least they could have staggered the edges. I feel sorry for the guy that has to repair the walls after anyone actually tries this.

i love this sort of wall treatment!
thanks for posting these pics - it is helpful to see that it can be just as dramatic with spaces between the slats!

I really like it, but I have a ton of walnut furniture and this would look way too gloomy. It cold look great in a room with lots of light or less heavy furniture than I have.

my first thought is that it would be a serious pain to dust.

ok - PB has been featuring a lot of horizontal planked walls - I see this now at IKEA - personally, that's a lot of money and a lot of weight to have on a wall - but, could you create a similar effect w/paint....? (especially if you were going for a painted-plank wall effect?)
i love to see more on this.
