Look! Layered walls

010808stencils.jpg
When dealing with a blank wall, don't think it needs to stop with just painting it a color and placing a piece of artwork on it. Think about taking it a step further and layer! Over at Shak in Style, there's a post about this detail from an image found in a housetour of Charles Duran and Natlai Saenz-Durn that was featured in the Dallas Morning news.

The bedroom wall is painted a metallic silver and then they used white vinyl wall stickers for the "faux -trellis wallpaper" band. They then layered on top a painted silhouette in bright orange of a cuckoo clock, and then layered on top of that a resin stag head and faux baroque style mirror. You could also achieve this look by stenciling your own pattern. Check out the rest of their housetour here and read Shak in Style's take here.

I don't get it. It looks as if the wallpaper was ripped off the wall. Maybe it's just the way the photo looks on my monitor?
