Look: Los Angeles DIY City Guide

Our friends over at Charles & Hudson put together a good start resource for Angeleno DIY'ers with their first DIY City Guide, especially useful for those of you looking to enter a project for our February Jumpstart . They've included hardware stores, antique hardware, historic renovation, paint store (though we beg to differ with their recommendation and would veer you to Jill's Paints in Atwater Village), home security, and salvage yards and architectural salvage. Sometimes visiting stores like the ones listed, alongside flea markets and used furniture shops, are all you need to get the hamster wheel turning for DIY and home improvement projects...

Our favourite amongst the group listed is nearby Silverlake Architectural Salvage; even though they've spelled out "Silver Lake" incorrectly, we'll let is slide, because they're one of the secret gems and resources for the decorating set in the know. We don't know how many times well let us on into their secret, only to reveal it's the nearby Silverlake Architectural Salvage. Check out the complete list here.

Also in Old Town Orange on the circle is Muff's Hardware: http://www.muffshardware.com/ with more antique hardware than you could imagine.

That's a pretty dinky list. Mann's paints, beloved by scenic artists. Opera paints, a must for downtowners. Par Paint, newly relocated to 1634 W Temple St.

Baller's Hardware--just about any True Value, as they're still all locally owned. The Pasadena one, above the 210 on Fair Oaks, is a gem.

thank you for compiling this list! LA doesn't have enough of this kind of stuff...list wise, I mean. I'd add the habitat for humanity re-store on Fair Oaks in Pasadena.
