apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Look! Maria Adlersson's Flat
Featured in Sköna Hem

0311809_adler1.jpgHappy hump day. How's your week been? It's been overwhelming over here, definitely feels like everything has hit the fan at once: work, taxes, more work, family drama...So what's one of the best ways to take a breather? Stare longingly at homes in faraway places (although an hour of perusing eBay also helps). Our current obsession is the home of Swedish artist Maria Adlersson, featured in Sköna Hem. Join us as we escape to her beautiful, vibrant-white home...

031809_adlerkitchen.jpgAdlersson's kitchen is small but streamlined...it has the narrowest built-in fridge we've seen yet. Plus, it uses one of our favorite kitchen combinations: glossy bright white cabinets with butcher block countertops. Not to mention we'd love to have a sunshine-yellow espresso machine in our kitchen...

031809_adlerdining.jpgLately, we've been taking a break from showing mid-century modern furniture in our posts in favor of more eclectic interiors, but we really liked how Aldersson used a mix of styles for her dining room. Mid-century modern chairs + industrial table + DIY glass bottles-turned-candleholder centerpiece = a comfortable, unpretentious space perfect for entertaining.

031809_adleroffice.jpgJust beyond the kitchen area is the office area, which is probably the most inspiring space, especially if you are looking to put a cozy office nookin your own home. A shelf is mounted to the wall with extra storage thanks to an Ikea locker on wheels. Also, behind that pair of awesome vintage striped chairs, is a radiator cover with perfectly spaced circles cut out for a more fun, creative look.

031809_adlerbook.jpgAnd speaking of storage, check out this narrow bookcase: each cubbyhole is a different size to fit a variety of books and boxes without wasting as much space as a traditional bookcase. Also, have we mentioned how much we love sliding doors / secret entryways? Wonder if that bike seat attached the wall opens the door (probably not).

Check out all the photos from Maria Adlersson's apartment at Sköna Hem.

It's beautiful. I really like the use of colorful pictures/rugs/pillows when everything else is simply white.

This is great. Color is used really well in this space, just to enhance it.

This flat is AWESOME!!! I love the floors. The very large artwork looks so good against the white walls, and the bookcase is awesome!

Gorgeous and lively and delightful. But if that kitchen is small, then I'm the Queen of Prussia...
