Look! Martha Stewart's Prop Room

060208_msprop0.jpgYou know that scene in Sex and the City where Carrie gets a job at Vogue for like $100/word (OK, so that's a slight exaggeration; but really, how does one afford...nevermind) and then celebrates by raiding the accessories closet? For us, we might prefer raiding Martha Stewart's prop room. Take a look at all the amazing pieces that go into each photo shoot for every one of Martha's magazines! More photos after the jump...and get ready for some serious envy, sigh...

Even those it looks...chaotic...we're pretty sure it's organized to the last candlestick.

Candleholders for every occasion, and then some.

Imagine if your job was polishing silver all day...

I used to work at Martha and I will tell you that it is even more incredible in person. Every time I went in, I was filled with a covetous desire that I cannot describe. There is a rack of about 150 wood cutting boards - I always wanted to just take the whole rack home because that bounty felt so delicious. There is something very luscious about so much lovely stuff.

Any film prop room is fun like that - I'm always discovering the very best retro kitchen stuff at one of the ones near me and they NEVER let me buy it from them.

I find it ridiculous reading the posts on Martha's site - So many people posting to say things like "I'm Jealous" or "I wish I had a room/warehouse like this for my stuff" or "I need to run out and buy more stuff so I can be like you"

21 sets of dishes on one side of one aisle alone. Dozens and dozens of cakeplates. Flatfiles filled with different patterns of flatware. (Heaven forbid we see the same cakeplate or fork used twice this year!) NOBODY needs that much stuff, not even Martha Stewart.

It's nauseating.

If it makes you feel less nauseous, most of these things were bought used, from antique stores, from flea markets, and every year the prop department has an internal sale so many of these items do go to more use in the homes of employees.
As a former employee, I thought I would fight for the best place in the building.

This reminds me of the great prop houses in Hollywood. Sigh!!!

i think bepsf may have missed the point - this is the prop room for Martha Stewart Omnimedia, not Martha Stewart the person. this is where all the props for her various television shows, magazine shoots, and advertising campaigns are kept. it is not martha's personal collection.

I might commit some variety of homicide to have access to those cake stands.
