Yeah, we here at AT:LA have fondness for the skateboard aesthetic...partially due to fond memories of our skating years, but also because of their graphical aesthetic. Here's another example of the skateboard as a decorative item we found amusing...

We actually have a spare deck we hardly use anymore, and since the Skate Board Mirror is currently sold out anyway, we might just make our own using some Krylon Looking Glass-Mirror Like Paint for a similar effect. Has anyone our there used this paint application? We're curious about the reflective effect results, imagining more of a funhouse mirror than a real mirror effect.
OOOH! I like it! I think I might try it with my old deck....i also have an old wakeboard that I never use, but I've been hesitant on getting rid of it because I knew there was something I could do to it....maybe this will work!

you have to use this paint on the underside of glass to get the reflective quality otherwise its just a metallic looking paint

i think hanging up a deck with a great design on it is much more attractive & celebrates a fantastic subculture, rather than robbing it of its core.

Okay, you can tell I'm no skateboarder...I'm here like "what are they doing to their "deck" (thinking porch-like thing). Then it dawned on me...

Ah, perhaps Kosmic Krome might be a better solution than the Krylon then.

Hi,
I think you missed the via Retro To Go bit, seeing as we broke this last week:
http://www.retrotogo.com/2008/03/skateboard-mirr.html
And for information, it isn't sold out, it's not actually come into stock yet. Purves list presale items as out of stock until the initial batch of stock is received (note is is in the coming soon section).

Modculture: the link was actually sent via IM by a skater friend this morning with a link to cribcandy which only provides a direct link to the site, so the link absence was not intentional.
jenny!: check these out.

If you do paint on skate decks, be sure to use a "blank" deck to start with and lay down a primer coat. Skate graphics are screened on in layers so if you paint over it in a solid color, you will be able to see the outlines of shapes below the paint surface when viewed from certain angles.
I love skate art, my house is a mix of mid-century styling and skateboard art.
In case anyone is interested, Pierre Andre Senizergues, the owner of skate footwear and apparel company Sole Technologies, is partners in a company that creates skateboard inspired versions of classic mid-century modern designs. Here is the url: http://www.skatestudyhouse.com/
