Last fall, AT:NY did a post about the Monsanto House of the Future. For those of you unfamiliar, it was a famous attraction at Disneyland's Tomorrowland from 1957 to 1967. Sponsored by the Monsanto corporation, it showcased their plastic products, and was a conceptual "house of the future..."

Am I projecting or is this housewife hell?

I'm still confused as to why this family will settle for the lousy plastic fire trap/squirrel cage instead of trying to move into the castle in Disneyland. And why does the kid look thrilled to settle for less? At night the looming turrets of its majestic opulent riches must taunt her.

In the future, women will adorn themselves in shirtwaists and pearls as if it were still 1957. Little girls will wear afternoon frocks from the "Lonely Goatherd" collection made by Monsanto, of course. The daughter seeks her Mother's approval at every turn, while Dad remains a benign presence seated on his plastic settee reading his newspaper made of polyvinylchloride by Monsanto, of course.

I love this House of the Future. It is like all the awesome modular housing we see now. It was ahead of its time. I love the dishwasher. Does anyone know if they make anything like it today?
