Look!: Paint By Numbers Pet Portraits

090408paint-01.jpgAhhh...we absolutely adore paint by numbers portraits. The organization of painting in the little numbered areas with their corresponding paint--absolutely soothing. We blame it on the fact that we have a warm place in our heart for all things organized but we're kind of in love with the vintage vibe we get from these pet by numbers--we mean paint by numbers. More after the jump...

I so want to send a picture of my son in. Think that they'd notice?

You can buy paint by number cd-rom's for around $20.00.
You can convert any image into a painting and the cd also tells you the paint and colours to use.

This is a pretty clever use of Photoshop's posterize ability and path-making from selections. You can do this yourself, though you'd then have to match up the colors on your own rather than have someone else do it and be able to print to a surface that can be painted.

Kudos to them for coming up with an interesting business idea!

I created a PBN of my in-law's dog last year, using Photoshop and instructions found in Craft zine (I think it was the first issue). It was SUPER easy.

I printed it out on really thick paper and mounted it on to cardboard before painting and framing it.

Oops - I guess it was nearly two years ago that the instructions ran in Craft. For anyone interested, here's a photo of my PBN DIY project:

All will be revealed grasshopper. Google this: paint by numbers cd

Very entrepreneurial attempt though. Hope there's no copyright infringement involved.

i found what looked like a framed paint by numbers of a collie and two pups at a thrift store a few weeks ago. on the back was the artist name and "age 16" written. it was only $7.00. i debated its purchase and ended up leaving it behind. i'm sure it will be one of those things that i sometimes think, "maybe i should i gotten that".

Actually, it's kind of cool to not conform to the color scheme provided, and just paint the sections whatever color you want to! Awesome!

Pink, orange, and green German Shepard anyone??

Seriously. This site only praises things if they're ridiculously expensive. You can do this much cheaper by yourself.

I placed an order for one of these 6 weeks ago (supposed to take 2 -3 weeks) and my credit card was charged. They will not return my phone calls or respond to my emails. Beware.
