Nick Olsen, an amazing designer and blogger for Domino Magazine came up with this great idea for transforming plain, white roller blinds. He takes high gloss black paint and makes an ordinary shade dramatic and classy. You could use the same design and choose a different color paint or choose a different design altogether. We could also see a stencil working nicely on roller blinds (especially if you're like us and not an amazing artist). How about you--do you have roller blinds? Do you incorporate them as is or have you done something similar with your blinds?

I've been thinking about stenciling my roller shades. The only thing on one wall is windows and 1 big picture, and I thought it'd liven things up. Anyone ever done this? Tips or pictures?

I didn't paint roller blinds, but I did paint some ikea panels and hung them to hide my ugly blinds. Just took a spray can and drew a vine on some of the panels.

Paint yes, or you can just buy some cheap stripe fabric. Fabric looks a little bit more polished and all you have to do is wrap it on the roller shade pole and add the weight at the bottom.

I agree that these could/should easily be recreated w/ striped fabric - which would appear warmer and more finished.
