Look!: Pictures On a Door
Plus 4 Alternative Ways To Use The Front or Back of a Door

101408door-06.jpgWe were flipping through an issue of Domino Magazine yesterday and spied an interesting use of a door--it was transformed into a "moveable wall" on which artwork was hung. We almost missed it because the door seemed to blend right in with the wall, which made the room seem bigger. More space saving ways to use the front or back of a door after the jump.

The art on the door was hung quite cleverly, so the art swings open with the door. We think using the door as an extension of the wall is a great way to keep your eyes moving around the room where they normally would hesitate when arriving at the door.

101408door-07.jpgFor an alternate look, we love using full length mirrors on bedroom doors. We found an antique mirrored door from a wardrobe and thought it would be perfect for our bedroom door.

101408door-02.jpgWe also really like the look of a chalkboard door. When you think of something you need from the store, or a quick memo to yourself, just jot it down.

101408door-01.jpgAn over the door organizer is the perfect way to utilize vertical space while being able to access your belongings without having to search for them.

101408door-03.jpgWe think this idea might be our favorite--an umbrella hanging on a door. While we don't get enough rain in Los Angeles to really warrant an umbrella front and center--the whimsical quality of it makes us smile.

Doesn't art attached to the door seem risky? It's cute, yeah, but you shut the door too hard and next thing you know, you're cleaning up glass. (Or, in that photo, you open the door all the way and one of the pictures on the door hits one of the pictures on the wall.)

I don't think that door could open!
If it opens towards us, the piece on the right (hinge!) would fall. If it opens away, the piece at top left hits the frame.

Huh.

greengelato- doesnt look like it was a mirror to begin with. See the cabinet handle on it? Looks like it was a door on the top part of some kinda antique china hutch thats just had its old glass replaced by a mirror.

In my first house, I had a dark hallway that I brightened with a long white cottage mirror from L. L. Bean. In my current home, the hallway is short and bright, and ends in a bedroom door, so I hung the mirror on the back of my bathroom door. It's great to have a full-length mirror in there.
