Sometimes we find the best use for something is quite different than its intended purpose. Case in point: we received a wonderful set of salt and pepper shakers our friends designed, but we had been using them simply for decorative items since we use our spices directly from their existing packaging. But while looking for something to hold some incense, we realized these shakers were a perfect fit...
Look: Salt Shaker As Incense Holder
And the best part is when the incense sticks are properly positioned, the ash falls perfectly onto the shakers themselves. They also hold additional incense to be used later. We hope our friends don't mind we're using their design for something completely different than intended. But our apartment smells the better for it.

janiejones: you can see in the photo that when positioned straight up (the holes ontop are perfect for holding incense sticks straight; I just angled the other two for effect), the incense ashes fall right ontop of the shaker. I went thru three sticks yesterday and all of the ashes fell right ontop perfectly.
