Normally people spend a lot of time and energy guarding their gardens against snails but the other day we saw this ingenious way to incorporate snails into the garden. Not only is it a great small space garden, but it also takes advantage of vertical space:
We spotted it over at kellygreen (where we also saw these eco-friendly pots. A tiny climbing vine was planted in an empty snail shell, hung on a little chain letting the vine grow and curl up the chain. We're not sure what vine this is, but we'd love to see a sweet little sweet pea vine planted and flowering above a small home office, or even in the kitchen.

I saw these a few months ago at the flower shop in the Japan Center in SF. I didn't get one, and I've been kind of obsessing about them ever since. They're lovely, but I was worried that with such a teeny tiny soil volume the vine would dry out quickly and I wouldn't be able to keep it alive. Glad to hear yours is thriving, polychrome! I'll take the plunge the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

It's called a Dishidia. It is native to rainforests in South-East Asia and Australia.
I have one. Water it once a week, making sure to drain out the excess water, it will do great!
