Look! The Mondrian Hotel's Wall of Hooks

atla-090208-hooks.jpgThis weekend, we blogged the Los Angeles Times Home and Garden section which spotlit the recent renovation at the Mondrian Hotel. A wall in the bathroom caught our eye both for its simplicity and its practicality...

While we've blogged a row of hooks, we hadn't thought of covering the entire wall with them. A row, yes, but a wall brings it from the practical to the sculptural. Especially if you can find hooks like these (designer Noriega-Ortiz describes them as resembling small birds) you can use them to hang towels, washcloths, small picture frames, jewelry, and other items in an ever-changing diorama.

Call me paranoid, but I prefer my bathroom hooks mounted above eye level. Although I rarely 'drink and bathe'... one too many glasses of wine, a wet floor, and you never know.

i sooo want to do this! i have issues putting all my clothes all over the chair or floor and have always wanted to install a ton of hooks instead...this looks rad, too!

I'm not convinced. It's pretty unpleasing to my eyes. Anything you hang will easily block 4 to 6 other hooks.

I agree with lightspeed. Plus it reminds me of a scene from 'Very Bad Things' where the call girl is impaled on a bath hook mid-coitus.

I miss Philipe Starck designed interiors at the Mondrian. I wonder what happened to all of those great pieces that used to be in the lobby.

I don't think I'd want to bring this idea into my bathroom, but I'd love it fitting rooms adopted this!

I'm with casafroggy... my instant reaction was to think of "Very Bad Things". Jeremy Piven could impale a whole gaggle of hookers on that wall!

I'm with Lightspeed. I'd be afraid of falling and gouging my eyes.

I'm so glad it kind of grossed other people out too. I thought I was the only weird one.

They really did a superb job with the Mondrian. They definately took chances with the renovation. But it's not for everyone, and I think you need a certain taste to really appreciate it. Did anyone else notice the pimp cump? haha

I am kinda done with this whole idea of interior costuming - it is just so very artificial and pretentious and is frankly yesterday's news.

I mean, a chalice in the bathroom?

Whatever.

Why do you need so many hooks?
