The hotel is scheduled to open in 2010. (via Notcot, via Vagabondish)
Apparently there is another hotel already scheduled to begin construction as well called the Poseidon Undersea Resort in Fiji. There is a virtual tour video of what it's supposed to be like below (click here if you don't see it below.
What do you think? Would you want to stay in an underwater hotel?
"This image is of a conceptual rendering of a new seven floor, seven-star (?) hotel being built "underwater on what was formerly a tobacco factory" in Istanbul."
The sheer ridiculousness of this sentence makes me kind of love it, if only for comedic value.

Hehehe kellylc.
Reminds me of the post here a while ago (last year?) on the astronomically priced coat rack made from 'harvested' pebbles.
Who comes up with this stuff?

i would live in something like this in a heartbeat! a whole house. but only if it were environmentally/marine-friendly. the way things are going on our terra firma, we may have to consider this option!

Underwater, meaning, in the Bosphorus? That could be very interesting, from an archaeological standpoint...I imagine the Bosphorus is full of interesting wrecks, artifacts, and remains. But what's the visibility down there?

I was thinking that too. The Bosphorus doesn't seem like it would have very good visibility, and I was wondering what kind of marine life you could even see. A very interesting idea nonetheless.

I think it would definitely be a unique experience - as long as I didnt think too hard of the possible "mishaps" that could happen....

don't they have an underwater hotel in the florida keys? i seem to recall a primitive, more science like set up and you have to don diving gear to get to it but it's underwater....

I feel claustrophobic just looking at the video. Doesn't Turkey get really bad earthquakes?

There is already an underwater restaurant in Asia. This is just taking it one step further.
