LiveJournal user Katie and boyfriend Sean give an example of utilizing the space above their stairs, an area ripe for showcasing art, collections or rarely used items (although, we're considering converting a similar space to hold/store a bike using wall hooks). How about you? Do have you used the space on the wall facing down the stairs? We'd love to see some photos!

I always throught those printing press drawer were good for something! These are cheap $15-5 at the flea market/antique faire ... and appears very serendipidous!

I've hung a full length mirror on the wall above my stairs. The stairwell is a bit dark, so it brightens it up.
And, it was one of the few places in the house that we could hang a big mirror, so now you can "multi task" and check out your day's outfit as you are heading down to breakfast.

I just see another place to put useless stuff. What's next? Ceilings? Sad.

I agree with Gustaf. little tchochkies and trinket in every free spot of a house irritate me. I believe in using restraint. an interesting piece of art might be a different story however.

But what a great place to grow dust bunnies! And in the event of an earthquake, or even a good door slam, you can play 52 pickup.

This looks like an earthquake-related accident waiting to happen.

so 1982... but that would be a nice place for a large painting.

The scale is all wrong - why put tiny things in a place where no one can get close enough to see it?
I can imagine other things in that space - but all large enough to see from the viewing distance.
And, yes, not anything that is going to collect lots of dust.

sepitts--I love your mirror idea. I have a dark stairwell, too, but there is a window the mirror could reflect. I may just try that. Thanks.
