Look! Vibrant Post It Notes Wall

072808atlapostitwall.jpgPost It notes have been shown to be a low cost and temporary way to transform any wall by readers and professional designers alike. Here's another example of using the ubiquitous office supply as a decor element...

Created for the April 2007 "Product" issue of Metropolis, thousands of Post-it Notes were carefully arranged into a brightly-colored, abstract "wallpaper" to eye pleasing effect by design team, Post Typography.

This is dangerous. A thing called flash-over is a big risk with this - essentially, if something was to light one on fire, the entire room's wall will go up in flames in a matter of seconds. This is why colleges have rules about posters touching on walls - many-a-dorm fires have been caused by this. Just a 1/2" space between paper on a wall will stop a fire from raging across the entire surface.

This looks like the project of a manic or a meth addict, and I'm going to have guess a few additional disorders to keep the lines straight.

I'm burnt out on the post-it walls. Oh well ... the glue on the post-it attracts cockroaches so the dorks who decorate their walls with these will soon regret it.

I LOVE Post-Its, but prefer them as office supplies. I'd be tempted to write notes on that wall!

However, that picture on the left looks like a fun pixelated graphic art poster. I think I'd love that wall if I could shrink it to a nice poster for over the couch!

But the photo is pretty old, and that wall was just done for that issue, right? Does anyone actually live with this?

I too think it's fun. Don't take it so seriously! This was useful looking and fun too:

You could pixelize a photo and do this on any wall.

Funny. I JUST saw a version of this this morning on this Brazilian talk show, Mais Voce (on Globo, if anyone has a satellite dish). Part of the set (where the host was interviewing someone over breakfast) featured a huge wall of yellow post-its, although they were staggered and allowed to flair out a little, so it was a more random design. I thought it looked great on camera.

Not crazy about this. Seems like a lot of work for something that won't last too long.

Oh, sometimes the readers of AT can be such sticks in mud. If it ain't Design Within Reach, they ain't interested!
Sheesh.

Bad taste is bad taste---even Design Within Reach has some ugly stuff if you ask me!
But on the other hand everyone seemed to hate Van Gough at one time.
Looks like fun for the subway walls or airline walkways.
Now I'm trying to hard to like it!

This thread is full of some ignorant comments. 1-ceiling fan doesn't affect this. Post Its are fairly strong. 2-If you're ignorant enough to think a flame can't jump half an inch you spend too much time reading design blogs. 3-How is it a waste of paper (it's recyclable! do you know that they didn't re-use these later?) 4-It's odd that so many designers worship the almighty grid, but when they see an art installation that possibly celebrates the grid they claim the artist must be deranged to be so careful. 5-You may be burnt out on post-its but as KVH said, one of these dudes has had a post-it wall in his house over 3 years and he's not the kind of person who would live with roaches (aka: did this before bloggers loved it and ...you're wrong). Sorry my first post is like this, but I know these guys and these replies are really misinformed.

Hah! I LOVE THIS! I love is the bright colors and the pattern, and I especially love the fact that you can change it easily at will...

... but most of all I love the obsessive quality of all the straight lines. It's an OCD dream come true! (And no, I wouldn't have it in my home.)

I think it's beautiful but would wish for something more permanent. The edges fluttering would get on my nerves on days when I have headaches. :(
