apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

On the Set: Twilight

101608_twits0.jpgWe're going to tread VERY carefully with this particular post, judging from the sheer amount of uh...disgruntled emails that we--OK, I--received after this post. Despite our opinion of the books (ranking alongside other notable literary gems like Sweet Valley High or anything branded with V.C. Andrews), we got suckered by a conniving Twihard who sent us these photos of the Cullen house from the upcoming Twilight movie. Even if you have no idea about sparkling vampires or unfortunate baby names, this house is truly stunning for fans of the modern aesthetic. Take a look at some of the exterior and interior shots after the jump...

Since we've only read the first book, we conferred with our 14-year-old Twilight expert, Maggie, to confirm whether or not the house lives up to the book (Verdict: it does). Also, we have learned a very important lesson: Don't piss off the Twihards, they are an extremely rabid enthusiastic fan base.

The Exterior of the Cullen home, complete with the infamous Volvo parked in the driveway.

Detail shot of the entry and the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Stairwell, Bathroom, and Living Room. In the books, the Cullen home is always described as being very...beige. And having huge glass windows with a neat-o panic room feature that has metal shutters in case a hostile vampire is lurking about.

Based on the amount of times that Maggie has forced us to watch the trailer, we're guessing this is where they set Edward's room with the French doors leading outside.

Open space kitchen / dining. Loving the black accent wall--it's a bit unexpected in such an airy looking home.

What a beautiful house -
- but why is the Volvo infamous?
(I've never seen the movie...)

Ha ha!! My friend turned me onto the series--then she said they were young adult books--
I still got sucked in--maybe it's the vampire theme?
House is totally not like I pictured in the book--I'll have to finish the 4th installment before I see the movie

If you read the book you'll notice that the "look" that's described throught the book (houses, places, characters and accents like the volvo) are pretty accurately portrayed in the trailer. I'm so excited, but inside I do feel a little guilty for liking a book about high school vampires :p

The interior of the home looks as I pictured...I had it in my head that the exterior was far more traditional. I'm with pajaro...a little embarassed that I enjoyed these books so much and am secretly looking forward to the film.

I had pictured the house as more traditional too. The 4th book is one of the worst books I've ever read and made me realize that I dislike the series as a whole, but I'll still probably see the movie.

I think the outside of this house looks totally awesome. The interior though, looks kind of same old, same old. It looks nice but it is sooo predictable.

My big thing is that house is supposed to be a big white house...i'm so afraid the movie will not live up to my standards because of the difference :(

Vampires, Huh?

I won't be recommending it to my Mother then - She has a thing for her Volvos...
;-)

Wow, that house is beautiful! Even though I am a little interested in seeing the movie, I thought the book was pretty terribly written!

I think the house is true to the book. It seemed very modern with the living room having a wall of windows and lots of white furniture, but where is Edward's piano. FYI, I prefer Jacob.

Hate the books, love the house. I will see the movie though, and hope its better...I mean, it has to be, right? Esp with a set like that. Oh those books sucked. All that hype for crap! Sorry for the vent.... :)

I was curious to read the book when I saw the trailer awhile back... so was my friend ...who is a boy so I guess it doesn't appeal to just teens :p

but that house looks really nice.

I imagine a big white house, so I'm a bit surprised by this version. Guilty pleasure when it comes to the books. Not a big fan, but it amused me enough. =)

My niece (and older sister) bought me the books for my 25th(eek!) birthday, so I can tell you that
1) the exterior is supossed to look like it's either 100 years old or a perfect restoration
2) the garage should hold MANY more cars...by the end of the last book there are 8 cars, plus a motorcycle or two. ALL of which are in a garage because it rains all the time there. They don't wanna ruin the paint jobs, right?
3) the table is oval
4) there is only 1 sofa because vampires can stand for infinite amounts of time...they only sit to look more "natural" when humans are around. It is white or beige, and too short to completely lay down on.

Please attribute this knowledge to my attention to interior details and not to being a "Twihard"!

LaurieLu, I love you for having taste in books. Thank goodness someone does. I'm really close to just smacking every Twihard I meet upside the head.

The house is nothing like it is described in the book, the exterior anyway i don't see a speck of white and it supposed to look as though its a great restoration of a house about 100 years old...not impressed with the portrayal i guess that why the books are always better that the movies.
