Outdoor Inspiration: Use Beach Mats as Outdoor Rugs

060109_beachmat.jpgObviously Benita over at Chez Larsson is a huge inspiration to all of us here at Apartment Therapy. Her brand of Swedish design and simplicity wins us over every time. After the incredible response to her tips on staying organized, she started keeping her own blog and we check in regularly to see what quick, easy solutions she has for keeping her home looking amazing. Her recent deck revamping did not disappoint:

To give her deck a boost of color for summertime, she used some affordable beach mats in the perfect shade of green (we've got green floors on the brain), stapled them together and, voila! an outdoor rug that should last the season. See her how to right here.

Thanks Benita!

I've just done this to cover the ugly cracked concrete on my balcony! I used a plain grass mat though, since my deck chair is kelly green. :)

I need something to cover the dirt in my yard where grass should be. Otherwise when guests come over they track in so much mud. Will it work I wonder...

When my kids were younger, I actually used these type of mats (cost about $1.50 a mat at the time) to use as wall covering down the hall to their rooms. I got some cheap molding to put across the top at chair rail length. It didn't work forever because eventually with kids goofing around...it frays....but it looked great for a number of months. Our house was decorated in a tropical style....so it fit right it.

I used a set of these as a patio blind once. I got them at the dollar store and they only lasted almost the whole summer.
