As much as we like our Skype-enabled Netgear Dual-mode Cordless Phone Station (best of both two worlds), part of us pines for the satisfying mechanical sounds of a proper finger dial telephone. There's just something about the rotary dial that evokes memories of private dicks and alluring dames of yesteryear which we've always been fond of. So we tip our hats off to Pedlars of the UK for bringing a little back of the old school, with a sheen of candy colour new school finish, with these fully reconditioned rotary dial telephones in hot pink, lime or orange. They're like 1st generation iMacs in colour and appeal. About $128.

I have a similar vintage phone that was refurbed and cosmetically reconditioned by an LA-based company called Art Thang Vintage Phones. Mine is originally from Argentina, looks to be from the mid-'60s, and is in a great baby blue with dove gray accents (and a cream-colored cord). Fully-functioning; the unit's loud rings could wake the dead... I tried to find the company's website but it doesn't appear to be up at the moment. I bought it at one of the little shops on 3rd St, just west of Joans on Third in W.Hollywood.

Rib Joint Customer: Ya got any soda?
Hammer: One dollar.
Rib Joint Customer: Aw, c'mon, now! Look out for a brother, man, c'mon, yeah. Check this out: why don't you let me get a sip for fifteen cents?
Hammer: My cups cost more than fifteen cents!
Rib Joint Customer: All right, fuck the cup. Pour it in my hand for a dime.
