I don't like it, makes me dizzy. But I do love love love that lamp. Where can I buy that?!

I would so trip on that and bust my ass. One rug, cheaper. You are so right.

Completely impractical.

after much searching (about 1 year) i finally recently found the perfect rug for my living room. perfect with regard to color & texture. only problem was it came in only one size that was too small to cover the space. so i bought 2. i've seen that many times where a rug comes in only one size. manufacturers don't always offer much in the way of variety, so you have make do.

I love the style of the rug - but you're right, it needs to be one large room-sized rug.

My cat would have these little rugs all twirled around in no time flat.

I don't know, I like it. I can't really justify it, but I do.

That said, if I was in Kat1's situation and *had* to have several smaller rugs instead of one big one, I'd figure a way of attaching them to a suitable "carrier"--maybe a large jute rug, so they wouldn't slip or curl. (Or maybe just sew them together?)

In general, seems like a lot of work for something that could be accomplished another way.

It's just designers trying to come up with the next trend - you are bound to have some duds in the mix. This is the home decor equivalent of wearing 5 Swatch watches at once in the 80's... why wear 5 when one is enough? Answer, because someone other people thought was cool did it first and all the kids who wanted to be cool followed suit.

P.S. - the small optical pattern in starkly constrasting colors is seizure inducing at best.

Maybe they thought it would break up the dizzying pattern?

i don't mind the multiple rugs, but is that a carpet i see underneath?

The rugs aren't the only problem with this room:

1 - Too many pillows, both on the sofa and in the sling chair
2 - Front legs of sofa aren't on the rug
3 - Ottoman being used as a table doesn't have a flat surface - Notice that it takes a pile of carefully placed magazines to keep from spilling the tea.
4 - End tables are much too low for the arm-height of the sofa - They should be the same height as or no more than 2" lower than the arms of the sofa.

Not worth all the time that would be spent straightening them all back out every day. The rest of the room looks nice though, other than the very impractical ottoman being used as a coffee table.

I can't think of a single redeeming quality for multiple rugs like this.

And that pattern... my eyes!

It looks like those Palestinian scarves that have suddenly become fashionably trendy, (what is that about anyway?) not so much a fan of it.

i would like this room much more without the rugs entirely.

I don't see why there are too many pillows on the couch. It looks like the couch is deep enough to accommodate the pillows except for the side pillows by the arms.

large rugs are ridiculously priced!

Seriously, why do the front legs of the sofa have to be on the rug? That sounds like a silly rule that is meant to be broken.

I don't like these particular rugs, but I think that it could work with some rugs.

No..I can see the intended look etc..but not a good look/at all..flooring needs to have been broken up with a lighter rug in middle..at least..or one /two larger rugs..and oh yes..can see someone's dog or cat (s)..just having a super twirl fiesta for themselves...hahahah..but love other things in pretty room!

Larger rugs are expensive but I would (1) totally trip on all these rugs (2) constantly obsess over the perfect gaps between them (3) It's making me dizzy!

I've seen DIY designers take a group of smaller rugs and tape the back together with carpet tape. Would that help here? I'm kind of having the same problem, was thinking of taping three runners together to get a big-rug look.

Those would sliiiiiiiiiide all over the place.

But yes, I want to know more about the lamp.

Not crazy about all the rugs. With my coordination, I would be tripping over them all the time. Plus, if you have pets, the rugs would be all over the place after they got done running across them. The lamp on the other hand is fabulous!

Sometimes I wish I had a few small rugs instead of my single big rug. It'd be so much easier to just hang the small ones outside and beat the dust off them.

What bugs me here, aesthetically, is that there are two small rugs and then two longer runners. Why not three longer ones so at least it looks more unified?

On shoots like this, who knows why they ended up with those rugs. Maybe the rug they ordered for the shoot was rejected at the last minute by the photographer or art director. Maybe something got spilled on the original rug while they were styling the room. I can't tell you how many shoots I have been on where the stylist/set decorator has 1 assistant, 30 minutes, and a WalMart with which to solve some major dilemma to everyone's satisfaction. They work hard and the good ones typically do great work under an amazing amount of time pressure.

i would have attached them somehow- i dont mind the pattern- just dont like the fact that they would be a pain to keep straight.

I think they were going for making the room look more casual with the collection of smaller rugs, but that pattern is painful on the eyes in such abundance...yet it's the only thing that makes it okay that they're separated. More plain or organically patterned rugs wouldn't have held together even so tenuously as these do.

So boring!
