Revisiting LA's Architecural Past via Julius Shulman

120908Shulman_1.jpgDid you know that's Pierre Koenig himself looking all suave and debonair, undoubtedly about to put something a bit more romantic on the hi-fi? I'm sure quite a few of you our knowledgeable readers do and recognize this from Julius Shulman's oeuvre of legendary imagery capturing the golden era of Los Angeles architecture. AT reader Gwen pointed us to the Shorpy Photo Archives where the photo above and others were posted, accompanied by an array of humorous comments/captions, our favourite being:

He: It's not the SIZE of the woofer, it's the excursion of the cone!

She: I've heard this song before. It's a sad one.

He: Can I get you a drink?

She: Now you're talking.

He sure was sexy when he was younger...

...so are his houses - But they didn't have "Woofers" back then, just Mono or the rare Stereo speakers.

Is that a stereo cabinet or a bar in the first picture? Either way, it's sexy and I'd like to try and copy it for my homemade stereo console.

That bird on top of it is cute too, would look great in a nursery.
