We're digging these near-monochromatic color palettes featured in designer Steven Gambrel's portfolio. Monochromatic color schemes tend to rely heavily on textures to add some interest, but Gambrel proves that the right combination of related hues (plus patterns!) really can bring the drama...

Monochromatic is an interesting concept. Would be interested to see a jewel toned purple done (feeling that jewel tones are very 'in' right now).

Wow, #3 is my favorite. If I were in those intense blue rooms, I would almost feel like I'm underwater or something...a bit too much.

What is the flooring in that top photograph?
Terrific work!

I think these would be lovely to visit, but to immersive to live with all of the time. I like bitdot's observation that the blue room is like being under water...I would extend it to the other rooms as well, the taupe one is like being under sand. Anyway I think that these kinds of rooms are great in hotels and vacation homes, or in any house that has an "extra" room, but if my main spaces were like this I would feel overwhelmed. Maybe the inhabitants have strong "colorful" personalities, so they can compete?

Love that top photo of the orange room...the black background in the artwork on the wall and the lampshade really make it work.

I love these Monochromatic rooms - they're so restful.

Love the warm autumnal tones with botanicals. I checked his site, and also found that he was able to add the same colors in the form of storage boxes in a white room:

it's a nice option for people who want warmth without the painting! And can consider a rug similar to the botanicals on the wall.
