Ten Things I Love: From Laure's Apartment

Inspired by the wonderful Ten Things I Love posts over at The Kitchn, we thought we'd follow suit and begin a regular series created by readers and editors alike, giving everyone an opportunity to share the very things and qualities of our homes that make them special: the things we love. We're starting off with our very own Laure Joliet, who has given us her 10 (+1, she's such an overachiever) favourite things that she "adores" in and around her home...

  1. In general, I love family photos and envision, one day, having an entire wall devoted to lots and lots of them.
  2. This planter from Ikea (a couple years back) with its blue stripes reminds me of a French dishtowel but the square shape makes it feel modern.
  3. The last time they ahd a sale I went to the Bauer Pottery Store in Atwater and bought up three classics: Mixing Bowl, Pitcher and Creamer in some of my favorite colors and all 3 for 50% off.
  4. My mom was a fashion model in the seventies and I love her old magazine covers. This is my old apartment where they had a perfect wall to inhabit.
  5. I love when she turns her back to me aloofly but then lays down on my foot to make sure I don't go anywhere.
  6. What's this one called? Variegated...something. Love this succulent. In the right conditions it can get to be a foot across and the variation in colors is amazing.
  7. I inherited this sideboard from my grandmother. She had it in her living room for as long as I can remember (with records, books and mementos from her travels on top) and I just love that it's sitting in my home now.
  8. This is a combo. I love this Jonathan Adler Vase that was given to me as a gift and I love Stargazers for their drama and their heavenly scent.
  9. I found this lamp on craigslist for $30 and it has become a favorite (as soon as I paired it with a vintage lampshade from one of my grandmother's old lamps). See that lamp with 2 other favorites in an old post.
  10. Apparently I love turquoise and I love pottery. This vintage bowl was a birthday present form my mom last year. It looks amazing with any kind of fruit or vegetables so it's been out on the counter since september.
  11. My Martha Pink Scalloped Milk Glass Cakestand. Oh how I love thee. I use this baby as an entryway tray to catch keys, as a plant stand, fruit stand (onion stand), and sometimes even for cakes and cupcakes.

Have ten things you especially love and want to share with us and the Apartment Therapy community. Email us with your photos and descriptions to Apartment Therapy LA and we'll share the love.

I love that cool blue corridor...

The cat reaching into the bauer pottery bowl is too precious for words.

How dreamy those 70's model pictures look in those frames. Are they the ones for albums? And on that blue wall.
Ugh, it's perfect. A good idea anyway but how nice that they are of your mom.

Awww, i just realized one thing I don't love - posts that have thumbnails. . . . I would MUCH rather scroll down. Anybody else have an opinion? Will the folks at AT listen????

kdear, I like the thumbnails, I just don't like how they're haphazardly implemented. It shouldn't be reloading the entire page when you click on a thumbnail. And it would also be easier to read the whole article if the comments pertaining to each photo were captioned underneath the photo, rather than lumped together halfway down to page.

I HATE the thumbnails, it's one of my biggest pet peeves on this site.

And I HATE that after you click on them you have to go back through all of them to get to the main page again.

Scrolling down for pics with the text under each image would be so much easier and more enjoyable. It's so annoying to read the post and then have to scroll back up to match the words to the image.

Personally, I would rather scroll down than have thumbnails, but I agree with sparkle that it would be much easier to have the caption underneath each photo.

Laure, I think this means you must do an updated house tour sometime soon...please.

I also hate the thumbnails. I'd much rather scroll down and have the captions underneath each picture.

Sorry you're not into the thumbnails, we're noting your comments!

Angela--the frames are just the silver ones from Ikea--cheap!

Haha! Wow - I just did a double take looking at the bottom of the three family photos. I have a photograph of my grandparents' wedding that looks *exactly* like that one. Same pose, same style of dress and hair (as far as I can tell). Weird. :)

P.S. Love the post!
P.P.S. Hate the thumbnails!!

Thank God people are finally speaking up about the thumbnails and the tedium of having to click back through them to move on to the next post. AT, use photos in succession, please!

I pretty much loved the ten things about Laure's apartment she loved. The intense blue wall was an exception -- too overwhelming.

I was shocked by the cat drinking out of the Bauer pottery. However, I thought all Bauer pottery was vintage. I gather from some of the posts that Bauer pottery is still in production. Good to know!

I have a vintage Bauer pitcher with a curved wooden handle that is strapped onto it by a piece of leather. It's a real trip. If it had the little top originally made for it, it would be worth real money. However, even as is, I wouldn't let a cat near it!

Laure, nice job.

Just wanted to agree about the thumbnails...

Well it isn't the thumbnails so much as the entire page reload...that is the worst

Folks, we're working on implementing a thumbnail gallery system that doesn't reload the whole page. It isn't for the lack of wanting to streamline the process (we would prefer it to stay on the same page too, as expressed by many); we're also planning for captions for each photo. Hopefully you can stay patient with us through the transition...we promise we've noted your feedback!

That credenza reminds of this one that I saw at the Palm Springs Modernism Show.

Hate the thumbnails, for all the reasons everyone else already noted. AT: Please get rid of this format!

Like the post/idea. Look forward to seeing more.

You're playing with fire by keeping stargazers in the same house as a cat (all parts of the lily are deadly to cats if ingested). You must be very brave or very secure in the knowledge that kitty won't taste them. I'm envious because I love rubrum lilies and I love their scent. But my cat likes to eat flowers, so they are a no no.

Miriam--my kitty never goes near them. I've had cats all my life and flowers too and only found out in the last couple of years how poisonous some flowers and plants can be to them. Since I've never had an issue, I'm guessing that my kitties have stayed away from stuff that would be harmful!

And thanks everyone, it was fun to share my favorites ad makes me love them more when I see them and I can say: hey I love that, it's one of my favorites!
