The Best Indoor/Outdoor Bathrooms

atla030508-inout00.jpgYears ago we stayed over at a friend's family summer house in Carlsbad, and we specifically remember the house because of a unique feature: a completely outdoor bathroom overlooking the ocean. We never thought ourselves much of exhibitionists, but we admit it was sort of fun. Under the cut are several other examples of indoor/outdoor bathrooms from around the globe...

i love the idea of open showers and open tubs- bathing in the open- makes it feel like an oasis... but in suburban LA? what if it rains? and it looks like some of these cycle water where does the soap go? maybe i'm being silly or ignorant but it seems somewhat impractical in most suburban areas even if you did have a secluded home safe from peepers and prying eyes. but hey! i'd give it a try.

the top main photo seems lovely and the whitestone bathroom with the towel latter looks so very inviting.
ahhh....

Aaaah... One of my favorite things about Japan are the outdoor onsen (hot springs). There's definitely something exciting about being nekkid in the great outdoors.

They all look nice enough - I really like the Japanese-inspired one. That said, how often do people take baths? I personally prefer the shower. A good rain shower makes me think of washing all the dirt and stress of the day away; bathing just reminds me of sitting in a stew of all of that...

That said, my favourite is the third picture from the last. Beautiful floors!

Such bathrooms are pure joy. When I visit my family in the Caribbean such living is possible. Here in MN... not so much.

I stayed in Kaui at a lovely cabana with a shower and claw foot tub outside. It was so wonderful. I've had a lot of really great experiences in my life but taking a bath outside under big banana trees surrounded by tiki torches is something I'll never ever forget!

I take baths all the time. However, I tend to take them in winter when it's cold(er) here in California... which means I would be less likely to want to go outside! However, I go to a campsite every summer which has glorious redwood showers open on the top to the trees. Showering outdoors is pretty great.

a friend of mine has the most fantastic outdoor shower... it's nothing frilly, she has a really old house and vines have grown up the sides of the shower and over the top of the trellis. it's wonderful.

OMGosh I love this idea! I love reading under trees... add laying in a bath of soapy warm water and you have heaven... my eyes have been opened!! It's been added to my DIY To Do List.

Nice! It is so relaxing to shower with nature around you! In Asia, pvt outdoor showers are the selling points of many luxury resorts. An example of a very south east Asian bath can be seen here :)
