Update: Skate Study House

atla022808-sk8studyhous01.jpgWe mentioned the Skate Study House collection early last month, but wanted to share a few more additional recently released pieces from the Colette sponsored collection, all below the jump...

The official website is now up to peruse, and you can order items like the Astro Clock (especially ripe for an affordable DIY version, preferably using my old school favourite Santa Cruz wheels), the comfy looking Jet Set Lounge Chair, and the free standing Nova Lamp directly from Skate Study House (you'll be waiting 3 months after ordering though, so don't get too excited there, Hosoi).

Personally, most of these pieces have too much of a DIY skateshop project appearance to them to justify the prices...all except for the beautiful Skate Wall screen partition which is much more subtle in its nod to its origins.

I dig skate culture, but I hate this stuff. Way overpriced reworkings of timeless designs ... er, no thanks.

I want to diy some shelves and wall hooks but need to find cheap (probably used) skateboard parts.

My husband, a veteran old-school skater, could provide quite a rant on this "trend". I won't, though. It just gives me ideas for the 35 decks we have stashed in corners and under beds. (Seriously, it's probably more.)

I was happy to note that at least one of the designers is really into skating.

Lizzy - if you need a skateboard for a shelf do a search for blank decks. The snazzy graphics won't be there but depending on your purposes, that may not matter. Or better yet, go to your local shop and ask about them. The cheapest I just found online was around $13 but I've seen them in shops for $6.

Swan - my boyfriend has the same rants.

I've been planning to recreate my his cracked old boards into bookshelves. Not as fresh as new slicks but with more of a history it will make them more interesting.

Too much of a reach for me, but I do have a fondness for the Stax Loveseat. Maybe it's just the contrast of the dark boards with the light edges.
