Here's a home owned by a former neighbor we'd occasionally see driving around the hood sans shirt in his signature style. Decorated in a serene eco-ethnic modern style, with a textured palette not exactly reflective of his reputation/image (likely professionally decorated), the spicy name attached to the Malibu home might come as a surprise...
The fairly modest sized 2,731 square feet Malibu home belongs to none other than Michael Balzary, aka Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (there are two additional guest houses, one used as a music studio). We'd see Flea semi-regularly around when he was a Los Feliz resident, a beloved fixture at the nearby Silver Lake Music Conservancy that he founded, and we were always a bit sad when he moved away (though we nearly literally ran into him at a Lakers game). But now we understand why he moved west of the 101. If we were offered a view (and a study/bookcase) like that overlooking the Pacific, we'd move in a heartbeat.
We're certainly impressed that every corner of his home is filled with artwork, reflecting a passion for sculpture, photography and paintings, alongside a decent size collection of bass guitars gracing a studio wall.
One of our favourite sections of the home is the conversation corner; a huge black and red painting floats above a Ligne Roset Togo sofa, optimizing a space that could have easily been wasted. It's also right next to the kitchen, making it an easy trip to refill on refreshments.
There plenty of more photos and details about Flea's Malibu dream home here to oggle (yes, a ridiculously funny real estate listing URL, if we've ever seen one).

Gah! This house (and the surrounding area) is so beautiful, it physically hurts to look at!

I don't care for some of the art but I love the house. That bathroom alone is worth whatever it cost!

achingly stunning is right...everything....the play of the light above the door and the bedroom, the built-ins...the conversation corner really sends it over the moon!

wow, I actually guessed this from the pics. Though I kind of narrowed it down to one of the Chili Peppers (music, LA institution), and Flea was the only one whose "name" I could remember.

Loving the Ligne Roset party pit. I'm jealous!

Gorgeous! Although, until I got to the pic with the guitars, the "sans shirt" clue made me guess it was David Hasselhoff. If anyone has to have my dream house, much better Flea than The Hoff!

he he
dearmisha, David Hasselhoff actually popped into my head too for some reason. Flea is awesome. I ran into Anthony Kiedis at an Art show in LA. I'd like to believe he checked me out. :)

I like the organic quality to it. Not a fan of the floors but the rest of it is most excellent.

I spent my summers at this house when I was a kid. I haven't been back in over 10 years, but when I saw the picture of the hall way I instantly recognized it. My Uncle and his family lived in both guest houses, at first the one attached to the house and later moving into the one closest to PCH. I remember being there while fires raged in the adjacent hillside (I must have been about 5 - Im 34 now), during earthquakes, and even remember getting my fingers smashed in the door of the garage. My fondest memory was racing my big wheel with my cousins down that long driveway. If I could afford it I would totally buy it, those were the best summers of my life.

I would love to live here, but I think I like the purple VW bus in the driveway the most. (joking of course) I really like the surfer artwork, I wonder if it is of people he knows.

Wow, that's a beautiful home. I'm a bit surprised by the owner!

I had a feeling it was a Chili Pepper :) I agree with everyone else--this place is stunning. I'm not in love with the decor, but the beauty of the house is hard to diminish.

So un-rock 'n roll... I think he has great taste. I would adore living here. That view... too too awesome for words.

He's got a place in Big Sur and on the south east coast of New South Wales, Australia. Chili Peppers are up for nomination to the Hall of Fame this year too. I hope they come back from their hiatus soon and get out another record. If you look at the Making of Stadium Arcadium DVD, he and Anthony are in someone's home. I always thought it was Flea's but I'm not sure it is this one. Didn't he have a property in Malibu that burned down a couple of years go?

Holy freaking pacific.
I was liking every thing about this until picture 4. I'm so far beyond "like." It's how I picture heaven.
