XXX Interior Decor

Anyone out there from the 818? Valley represent! Growing up in the Valley, you'd quickly learn there was one particular industry that the hills of Chatsworth, outlying Van Nuys and industrial regions of Reseda were specifically known for...and it wasn't the rockets being launched from the floundering aerospace industry. No, the SFV is widely known to host the multi-billion dollar adult film industry, and thousands of movies are shot throughout the suburban enclaves that many of us call home.

But where exactly?

Ahhh, we knew you had to look!

Take a completely SFW peek inside some of the homes that are featured in some of SF Valley's finest films, via 818movielocations.com, a company specializing in 818 area code residential movie shoot locations. Colourful, sometimes tacky, mesmerizing and actually quite fun to look at (I'm referring to the homes, not the movies), the locations showcased include amenities recognizable to anyone familiar with the genre: jacuzzis, saunas, pool tables, faux european modern furnishings, and strippers poles. This may be an industry where small is not cool, but we'd think you'd agree it's arguably am amusing diversion from our Smallest Coolest contest.

This could almost pass as a catalog page from Crate and Barrel. If you squint.

We like the post and beam interior, but the furnishings do little to highlight the architecture. Though, we think the far wall colour does a nice job complimenting the wood beams.

These are spacious homes of various architectural styles (Cal-Mediterrranean, ranch, post-war post and beam), ranging from 3,400-4,200 square feet with features such as a one-half acre parking area that can accompodate up up to fifteen cars, a black bottom pool, painted mural backdrops, billiards tables, and most telling, each residence is "professionally cleaned and made-ready once again" immediately after each "event".

The decor isn't as bad as we'd imagined. Some actual decent colour choices, mix of textures and interesting floor plans. But still too much of the furniture looks like Z Gallerie circa 1998, and there are definite moments where the decor reveals the motivations and intentions of the service being offered. Perhaps ATLA will offer our design services for a decor makeover and we'll post the results via pay-per-view? Not likely.
