LA Good Questions: Christmas Trees in L.A.?

atla_121007xmas01.jpgHi Apartment Therapy,

With the condos going in on every vacant lot, I have lost my two neighborhood tree lots. I ventured toward Chinatown to my tried and true Christmas tree lot, but this lot has also disappeared or has been relocated! I've tried googling to find any nearby tree sellers, but nothing comes up. Any suggestions where one could find good Christmas trees besides from the big box chains? -Doug

Doug, from the sounds of things, you're a nearby Silver Lake/Echo Park/Downtown neighbor, so we're going to recommend you check out the smaller Christmas tree lot that's sprouted up on Hyperion Ave. near Lyric Ave; it's on right side heading north up Hyperion from Fountain Ave. We'll try to get you the name when we drop nearby tomorrow (our vet is close by).

There are also listings of other Christmas tree dealers throughout Los Angeles here. Any other recommendations/favourites out there from LA residents?

i don't buy a Christmas tree - but I did notice a lot down by Venice Beach, along Pacific Avenue near Venice Blvd - because the juxtaposition of the "No Beach Parking" with the painted snow covered Christmas sign, struck me funny!

There is a lot on Franklin right across from the 101. My friends got their tree there and it is pretty nice.

Across from the 101 Cafe, not the freeway.

The Chinatown lot meaning the United Melon auctions? That did shut down.

The YMCAs sell trees in La Canada and Pasadena, there's the Delancy Street tree lots as well.

You can buy a tree at Ikea, return it and get a gift cert.

I've always always gotten my trees from Delancey Street. The Delancey Street Foundation (which has an amazing track record rehabilitating ex-cons) has a moving company, tree lots, and a restaurant in San Francisco -- I have never received anything less than remarkably stellar customer service in any of their establishments. You'll see what I mean.

I go to their lot that's on Wilshire, somewhere between Highland & Crenshaw. I believe they also have a lot on Washington around Sepulveda.

And my tree is perfect.

A designer at work just bought these cool fake trees for a client. They are like these steel spirals that end in a cool circle on top of the tree. The website is http://gh-design.net/gh_go_002.html

Let me know what you guys think because I might get one for this holiday.

I got one from Delancey Street off Olympic in Santa Monica last year but the lot is not being built on. I had a really great experience and I didn't feel silly spending $70 on a temporary tree knowing that the money will help the foundation. I've got to hunt down another location this year.
