Every apartment in LA seems to have a non-working fireplace so we loved Leah's roundup of ideas for putting them to use. Another idea to add to the inspiration files has to be Martha's stunning fireplace (non-working, of course)...

We love how she cleverly takes a Vitra Algue and pieces together fifty to make a hanging screen which has a sculpture-like quality. The white screen contrasts beautifully with the black brick of the fireplace. Not to mention all of the textures that Martha manages to mix effortlessly--a gray flokati rug, the shiny (and coral-looking) Algue, exposed brick... Additionally, twin silvery gray poufs add coziness to the space and help pull the entire look together.

Side point: I dig that they have the Eames leg splint mounted on their wall!

Love all of the different textures and how the white sculpture pieces enhance the black bricks.

Gorgeous! You could also create a similar look using a Tord Boontje curtain (http://www.unicahome.com/p14687/artecnica/until-dawn-curtains-by-tord-boontje-for-artecnica.html). I wonder, if you didn't have such nice high ceilings but you did have a mantle, would it look cool hanging from the mantle down to the floor?
