apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Matt Eastwood’s Paddington Pad
Sydney

072809matt01.jpgBy day Matt Eastwood is an advertising executive, although many Australian readers might also know him as a regular on ABC TV’s The Gruen Transfer. In his spare time however, Matt has turned an unwanted three level Paddington terrace from an 80’s abomination into something timeless... and in just two and a half months! See more after the jump.

072809matt02.jpg Despite walls being both added and subtracted, rooms joined and surfaces refinished, Matts renovation went diabolically to plan – although having already successfully renovated residences in both New York and London, the odds were in his favour.072809matt03.jpgClearly Matt has an eye for marrying furniture with furnishings. More surprisingly however, it’s the time Matt has spent packing and unpacking shipping containers of his own furniture and art that he credits to his desire to only purchase items that he truly loves. Matt has also started his own blog full of beautiful things he sees while searching the internet, visit “things i have seenhere. 072809matt04.jpg

Beautiful, though I'd love to see the before photos as well...

Extending the living space to the outside is genius. I absolutely LOVE it. The patio, pool of water and lush vegetation are all so luxurious. Its uncluttered, simple decor make it a home of complete relaxation. Well done.

Wow, this is such a fine job. It's great to have the outside inside! The "woods" wallpaper is so very cool. This is my dream home.

Nicely done! That rug is beautiful it works so well in this space because that is a big print.

My favorite is the Bitossi Horse head and like the prints in the same picture. I saw similar prints in London I wonder where these are from.

I have a Bitossi Horse designed by Aldo Londi that I bought in a thrift store 10 years ago for $5.00 and saw this lamp almost identical to my horse, I think I want it but then I have two instead of that one special piece..

LoriSF--

I have a Bitossi Horse too - but mine is a recent repro by the factory in Italy...
...the details aren't nearly as intricate as the vintage ones like yours, and the clay is smoother. One of these days I'll find a vintage one that's more to my liking.

I was won over with that first pic, and the rest are just as beautiful. Ditto on Australian design.

There's something about the combination of crisp white minimalism and large tropical leaves. I don't know why, but it totally works.

Despite walls being both added and subtracted, rooms joined and surfaces refinished, Matts renovation went diabolically to plan – although having already successfully renovated residences in both New York and London, the odds were in his favour.

And now I just want to hit him...
