apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Melanie's Fresh and Woody
Room for Color - International #12

thumbs up

Name: Melanie
Location: St Kilda, Australia
Type of Home: single family home

Color Inspiration: I grew up in the Australian bush, so I love green and wood. This vibrant green simply makes me happy. Plus, it goes with the wild aqua lamp that my grandmother gave me when she moved from the family home into a village. My apartment is in busy downtown St Kilda, but my colours remind me of my childhood home.

Give Melanie a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!
Thumbs Up Voting is only activated for 48 Hours — so don't delay!

Fresh and Woody

Colors Used: Olive reserve - Dulux.

Color Tip: Use a colour that you love and it will always be the right choice. Definiteyl test it with a sample pot. Take your time to accumulate cushions and ornaments that go with it. With an open mind at charity shops and flea markets you will eventually have a set-up that will inspire yourself and others.

If you paint that one white wall another complimentary colour, and add a colourful floor rug, I think it would help tremendously to your entry for the "colour contest...there's lots of potential, but good job so far!

I love your color scheme... I'd love to see all four walls green, then more pops of the blue throughout.

The lamp is gorgeous, I'd love it more if it were on that table :)

It's lovely and how nice to see a fellow Melbournite here! But why aren't those three pictures on the green wall hung at the same level??? The middle one over the couch in particular is far too high and being so close to the other it looks all lopsided.

What a fantastic combination of colours. Being in Melbourne, the tones work for all seasons. Love it.

Nice color scheme and the pic of the green wall is great. The white wall is kind of starkly boring next to it. Agree that painting the other walls (I'd probably stick with that awesome green) would bring the room together more.

I love your colors, the cool lamp, and especially the brown cartoony picture. Is that vintage, or a recent creation?

Thanks so much for everyone's tips! I think I will do the other wall. Ideas for complimentary colours? The print is by US artist Derek from Outre gallery in Melbourne. Yep, the lamp is Bitossi. My cousin has the matching one.

as nice as this place *seems* it would be great to actually see more photos of the space instead of "artsy" vignettes. it's hard to vote for a space when all one knows is that the owner has a certain piece of art or a particular colour of purse. please, enough with the vignettes! show us your home!
