Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: My patio is located in an urban area in Montevideo. It´s small and oddly shaped, but as its shrubs and vines grew through the years, it turned into a cozy place to enjoy a sunny day, have a family meal or play with my daugther. From late August to late April all of its vines and shrubs are in full bloom. During the cooler months, I rely on succulents to provide interesting variations of colors and flowering when other plants are dormant.
How did you create it? When I moved to my house, the patio was covered in mud and patches of dry and neglected grass. I started by paving the whole patio and having three raised brick beds constructed. Then I added some perennial shrubs with clear foliage to lighten up the patio a bit, as it only gets direct sunshine in the morning during winter months. Several vines and climbing roses where used to divide the private area from the common one -shared with three more neighbors.
