My Great Outdoors: Nina's Pocket Garden

2009greatoutdoorsbadge.gif Name: Nina
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Type of space: front patio
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: I just moved in a few months ago and I'm still in the process of fixing it up. Since my home is small, this has become the space for entertaining friends, eating and hanging out with my pups

How did you create it?: Most of my "creation" has consisted of cleaning it out! Bit by bit I'm adding things: one friend gifted me with the table and chairs, another with the statue.

Recommended store, site, product or resource?: friends who are redoing their garden spaces.

Even though you said you haven't done much except clean it out, it's cute! Very English country garden – rustic and charming, parts seem well maintained (like the clean-swept paved floor) and others…not so much (like the rickety fence and the shrub spilling over the wall). I think it looks worn-in, not overgrown or even scruffy, like so many spaces like it would be. I'm completely jealous you had such good stuff to work with!

I love the blue cushion with the white table and chairs and the red pavers. I think it'd be really nice if you had a little pot of annuals (maybe blue violas) on the table. The trellis is a great opportunity. I'd either have pink petunias cascading from hanging pots – the pink would echo the pink flowering shrub. Or train some kind of vine to grow up it.

I hope it turns out really well. :)
