My Great Outdoors: Terrence's Year Round Dining Space

2009greatoutdoorsbadge.gifName: Terrence
Location: Merida, Mexico
Type of space: Terrace
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: This is an outdoor dining terrace next to my newly created kitchen, the spaces were formally a breakfast room-kitchen and a dirt backyard. The space is used for informal and formal dining all year round, the climate here is very codusive to indoor outdoor living and my house now has that concept to the fullest.

How did you create it? Working with the architect Henry Ponce, the breakfast room and kitchen were combined to create a kitchen that is 350 square feet and completely open to the terrace with a 20 foot wall of sliding glass doors, the terrace has a built-in gas grill and extra sink and overlooks the back garden which is a work in progress.

Recommended store, site, product or resource? All materials and appliances are from local Merida, Mexico sources.

Probably not year round it gets dreadfully hot in Merida.

I am sure it will look even better with more landscaping.

Merida is so tranquil of a place. . . .not at all the Mexico you would expect and nothing like the American city (with a Mexico Address) of Cancun. Loved it there.

I will say that it is true the days in Merida go from hot, hotter to hot as h...l, but there is always a breeze and every evening a cool wind comes in and our evenings are 60-75 depending on the season. So al fresco dining is always possible year round in the evenings, also dinner time here is 9:30-11 or later .
The garden is a work in progress and once it starts to rain it will fill in nicely.
Thanks, TP
