dkruse.jpgNewport Beach interior designer Dee Kruse, recently opened her showroom/retail store in Lido Village. After 9 plus years of designing for clients in both Orange County and LA, she now gives her elegant coastal/contemporary-chic aesthetic a showplace for everyone to enjoy.IMG_0897.jpgDespite Newport's reputation of being the mostly conservative and tradtional "west coast Riviera", Kruse's vision is a fresh take away from the ever popular "french provincial / shabby chic / tuscan revival" that floods most of the homes in the area. Instead, Dee brings some old school Hollywood glamour and expertly mixes it with the latest pieces from Kartell or throws in a vintage Paul McCobb, yet still keeps it beachy and relaxed. The store, simply named "D.Kruse", is small in scale, but huge in style. She fills it with a mix of one-of-a kind antiques, but also carries the latest design must-haves from Europe.

The store also showcases several of her custom pieces. When we last stopped by, I was in love with a set of vintage "regency" style chairs she had redone. With that style so popular nowadays, I would have expected it to have been recovered in a lush velvet or suede, or even a quirky print. But Dee had it recovered in a simple raw linen, and lacquered the legs in white, keeping it totally coastal, but still completely glamourous. I also loved this set of gold rimmed coaster/ashtrays from Khn Keramics, out of Berlin, that had a quirky gun and crown design. Admittedly, many of the pieces in the store are pretty high-end, but she also carries more affordable pieces, such as accessories from Roost. Regardless, the store is a must see. Her color combinations are incredible and inspirational alone, and with a recent mention in this past March's Vogue Magazine, she's definitely one to watch.

Ooh - I love Juxtaposition. My mom lives in LB and we always peek in when I visit. Can't wait to check out D's place.

There are also a coupld of GREAT furniture consignment shops in Laguna Beach that have totally great stuff at really affordable prices. Completely overlooked by richy-rich locals and tourists, but goldmines I tell ya!
