Dan Heinfeld "green house" in OC Register

An article in Monday's OC Register featured architect, Dan Heinfeld's Newport Beach "green dream home." Heinfeld is the president of Irvine-based LPA Inc, which is a firm that has been praised for it's green architecture. His gorgeous home puts into practice a lot of what he uses for his commercial developments. He was able to build the modern home from the ground up, after one of the homes in the neighborhood got flooded and had to be demolished after mold had developed. Heinfeld says that the first rule of green building is to "pay attention to what the site offers for free."

The home uses a solar panel system that is integrated into the roof, as well as large overhangs to shade windows which help keep the home cool in the summer. Another clever thing he did was to utilize the prevailing breezes to flow off the swimming pool which also cool the house. Click here to read what other things he did, and see a slide show of the house.
