Hedge Height Laws

We thought that this letter to the LA Times Home section (regarding this article) warranted its own post.

We have been so interested in the (seemingly) random enforcement of “hedge Height” in Los Angeles. Other than perhaps blocking someone else’s sun we can’t think of a reason why people need to keep their shrubs at 6 feet in the front and 8 feet in back. Especially when people live in neighborhoods where houses are built huge and tall. Movie stars can’t have 8-foot hedges, people. Dont you know what goes on in those backyards?

The city claims safety as the issue, but when hedges are so obviously sturdy…hell, those skinny, 100 foot palm trees that line so many streets and all look ready to snap should be a stronger concern, no?
