This is a quick and dirty tip that our ex (who ran a cleaning business) used to do when guests stopped by unexpectedly and we needed a quick freshen-up in the bathroom.
Pour some Pine-Sol into the toilet and give it a swish before you do any straightening up. This sends an instant clean-smell throughout the room and home, tricking the nose into thinking things are much cleaner than they are.
Pine-sol may not be the best for deep cleaning, but for smellorific needs, it can't be beat!
This is also a great tip when leaving the house empty for more than a couple of days. I always splash a little Pine Sol in the toilets right before leaving the house for a trip. The whole house smells fresh and clean when I return.
