CNBC via LA Curbed reported today that drool worthy CB2 is currently looking for a Los Angeles location [San Francisco will open next]. Crate and Barrel's sister [lower priced/loft inspired] store just launched their first store outside of Chicago in New York Tuesday, which Maxwell attended and reported on here. Finally we get to sit on that couch we've been eyeing forever!
CNBC went on to report about the development of CB2 which we found very interesing. CEO Gordon Segal spoke about the concept and how they tested the brand for a number of years.
Crate and Barrel opened its first CB2 store in 2000 in Chicago, and originally thought it would appeal to young shoppers looking to decorate their first apartments.
"We wanted to have a store for 22-year-olds who were getting married. Then we realized no one 22 is getting married. They're all 27 and 28," he said.
The first store also stocked too many smaller, "clever" home decor items, he added. "There wasn't enough sales volume generated from all these fun, small items."
The retailer retooled the concept, adding more furniture to appeal to shoppers in their 30s, 40s and 50s who were coming to the store in search of stylish, contemporary items at affordable prices.
We're sort of thinking that the married at 28 might have to be altered to the 35 demographic for Los Angeles but possibly we're just old, bitter and jaded.
Regardless, we're looking forward to finally seeing the goods in person! Let's get the ball rolling with location ideas...readers? Where to for CB2?

I wrote to CB2 inquiring about any plans for SoCal locations and this is the response I received yesterday from a customer service rep:
"Although we do have plans for an opening in the San Francisco area in 2008, we are sorry that we do not have any plans for an opening in southern California at this time. We appreciate your interest, and rest assured that your request will be shared with our Real Estate Division. We hope you will continue to enjoy shopping from our site and catalogues. "

A friend of mine who is a designer for Crate and Barrel has it on high authority that there are 2 possible locations for CB2 openings in Socal within the next year. One being Century City, as an anchor to the redesigned outdoor mall, the other in a similar yet to be determined setting somewhere in "the OC".
