Spoonflower: Design It Yourself Fabric

112608_fabric.jpgIt seems too good to be true, but we just discovered a new company that custom prints anything you design onto premium cotton or upholstery fabric. So you can start you own line of quilts, curtains, aprons, potholders, baby clothes, hats, purses and tablecloths just in time for the holidays:

With all the handmade gifts we want to make this year it's a wonder we didn't hear about Spoonflower sooner. They will custom print anything you design...anything! So if you want to make pillows or stockings or a tote bag to carry gifts in, you can customize it all with your own fabric!

Submit your design using Photoshop or another free online design program and they'll print it on quality cotton fabric for $18/yard. Their turn around can be as quick as 2 weeks. Spoonflower also has a flickr page for checking out what other crafty types have been designing and how they've been using their fabric.

Get all the details on Spoonflower.

Designs above are from: lauriewiss, a bardis, chairs fabric that you can buy on etsy and cate anevski

Spoonflower is great, but really pay attention to the directions, esp. if you want a larger scale print. The quality of your scan will make a huge difference to the success of your fabric.

It had been "invitation only" while in Beta mode.

Squeeeeee!
I have been needing this for a year! I have an etsy shop that sells all sorts of home goods... napkins, runners, dishtowels, and market bags. Now I can actually have someone print my designs; zomg. FABULOUS!

Think it will work for me?

This is great. I'm going to spend some time over the winter holidays deliberating over some fabric to make curtains for myself.
